It is important to store your food in the fridge at the right temperature. Too hot or too cold can be the ideal environment for bacteria. Keep the temperature between 0°C and 5°C.
Tip 1: Keep it closed!
I know, it is tempted to stick your head into the fridge and checking what is in it. Every time you open the door you are releasing the cold air to escape. And this will result in a warmer fridge then advisable.
Tip 2: Clean it up!
Clean the condenser coils, as dust can build up and this will prevent the condenser coils from doing their job of drawing away heat. So ideally a couple of times a year we advise to clean these condenser coils. You can find them at the back of your fridge or sometimes at the bottom.
Tip 3: Cover food!
Not only because of hygienic reasons, but the moisture in the food is released into the air and this will force your fridge to work harder to keep everything dry in your fridge.
Tip 4: Do not overfill!
Avoid packing your fridge so full that the food is touching the shelf above. By leaving space between the shelves and your food, cool air can circulate. A fridge that is overstocked will push the temperature up and that will invite bacteria to tuck into your food.
Tip 5: Let leftover cool down!
Wait until your leftovers have cooled down, otherwise they will dramatically raise the temperature in the fridge, making the compressor work far harder to obtain the ideal temperature.
